At the Asian Championships in the Korean city of Gumi, track and field athlete Zelimkhan Nasyrov from the Akmola region is preparing to compete in two events.
Zelimkhan Nasyrov turned 22 in March. He represents the Akmola region and competes in the long jump and triple jump. His inclusion in the roster for the upcoming Asian Athletics Championships, set to take place in the Korean city of Gumi from May 27 to 31, can rightfully be seen as an advance given in expectation of his future progress and potential to meet the high standards of such a prestigious competition.
If we look at the 2024 Asian rankings in the long jump, the athlete in 30th place recorded a jump of 7.90 meters. It's worth acknowledging that even this result remains out of reach for Kazakhstan’s current long jumpers. On February 14, 2025, Nasyrov won the indoor national championship in Astana—an adult-level competition—with his best attempt reaching 7.23 meters. This meets the national standard for the title of Candidate for Master of Sport. A week later, on February 21, he dominated the under-23 national youth championship in Ust-Kamenogorsk, with his best jump measuring 7.14 meters—matching the standard for First-Class Sportsman.
In the triple jump, the athlete who placed 30th in the 2024 Asian rankings achieved 16.27 meters. Nasyrov did not compete in the triple jump at the 2025 national winter championships, but at the youth event in Ust-Kamenogorsk, he claimed another gold medal with his longest attempt landing at 15.76 meters—again meeting the Candidate for Master of Sport standard.
Currently, Nasyrov is at a three-week training camp in Belek, Turkey, alongside Kazakhstan’s top track and field athletes. Having proven himself as a national leader in his events, he’s been granted the opportunity to represent Kazakhstan at the Asian Championships in Gumi. It’s a vote of confidence—one he now has to live up to.
