Today in Almaty one of the largest charity marathons in Central Asia gathered 17 thousand people from 53 countries. Mayor Bauyrzhan Baibek welcomed all participants of the race at the opening ceremony. Akim of the city on his page in the social network Twitter noted the growth of event tourism in Almaty.

The youngest participants were the first to start the Almaty marathon. The children ran a distance of three kilometers.
Also, the runners were divided into distances according to the preliminary registration:
1. 42 km 195 m (marathon distance)
2. 21 km (half marathon)
3. "Marathon" (marathon relay)
4. 10 km
5. Nordic walking.
Start for all participants was given on the Republic Square.
The route of the marathon was laid along the main streets through the sights of the city.
The winners at distances of 42,195 km and 21 km were awarded cash prizes. But absolutely every participant at the finish of "Almaty marathon" received the coveted medal of the finisher.
Since 2013, a major sporting event is part of the international Association AIMS. The Almaty marathon tracks are certified according to the AIMS and IAAF rules and have a category "B", but due to the fact that there are differences in height at the distance that do not meet the requirements of the IAAF, world records are not recorded on it. Nevertheless, every year Almaty marathon unites more and more people.
