Today, on April 20, the XXIII Congress of the Asian Athletics Association was held in Doha (Qatar). The event took place before the upcoming Asian Championships in Athletics (April 21-24).
Representatives of the Federations of the Asian Athletics Association (AAA) took part in the Congress.
During the event, elections were held, which are organized every four years. The President and members of the Association Council were elected.
The President of the Association was elected Dahlan Jumaa al-Hamad from Qatar, who is the current President. From 2019 to 2023, he will continue to hold the highest management position in the organization.
In his speech after winning the election, General Dahlan expressed gratitude to all 45 Federations for the trust in his leadership, and promised to continue his work on uniting all Federations in AAA to develop and strengthen Asian athletics.
For the first time in the history of athletics, four women were elected to the governing board.
