Schoolchildren in Astana had the chance to compete at the Kazakhstan athletics complex — the very venue where stars of global, Asian, and Kazakhstani track and field have performed.
On May 5, children's competitions took place in Astana as part of the Kids Athletics program, developed on the initiative of the international athletics federation — World Athletics — to promote track and field among schoolchildren worldwide. The venue where they could show their athletic skills was the country's main indoor athletics complex, “Kazakhstan.”
Another feature of these competitions was that they were held as part of another initiative by the international athletics federation — Relay Around the World.
These were team competitions where every participant felt the support of their teammates and cheered them on when it was their turn to compete.
The program included 30-second jump rope, jumping throws with a medicine ball, sit-ups, long jumps, 30-meter hurdles, 30-second push-ups, relays, basketball throws, and sack races...
Through this game-like format, the Kids Athletics participants experienced nearly all areas of track and field — running, jumping, and throwing.
At the same time, it was clear how much the boys and girls were caught up in the excitement of the competition. You could feel their desire to perform their best and achieve results that would help their team outpace the others. Most importantly, everything followed the “one for all, all for one” spirit. In other words, it had the atmosphere of a real sporting event. The competition concluded with medals awarded to the winners and runners-up. In short, everything was for real! But the most important thing was that all participants got to feel just how diverse and exciting athletics is — the foundation of any sport!
The Kids Athletics competition was organized by the Kazakhstan Athletics Federation with the support of the Astana Department of Physical Culture and Sports and the Astana Olympic Training Center.
