High jumper Nadezhda Dubovitskaya is currently one of the most decorated members of Kazakhstan’s national track and field team. Ahead of the competition season, she answered questions from qazathletics.kz.
Nadezhda Dubovitskaya is a bronze medalist at the World Indoor Championships (2022), Asian Indoor Champion (2023), and silver medalist at the Asian Championships (2019). She also took bronze at two Asian Games (2018 and 2023). In 2024, she recorded the second-best high jump result in Asia — 1.92 meters. In an interview with the athlete, the conversation went beyond sports goals and hopes, touching on sources of joy and inspiration.
– What hopes and goals do you have for the upcoming summer competition season?
– Like any athlete, I hope to show my best results. My goal is to perform well this summer so that my family, my coach, my country, and everyone who’s on this journey with me can be proud. Right now, I’m preparing for the Asian Championships, which will take place at the end of May in Korea. And of course, the goal is to qualify for the World Championships this summer.
– What kind of placement are you aiming for at the Asian Championships?
– You go into any competition with the mindset to fight for top positions and show your best — this one’s no exception.
– How would you assess your current form?
– This year didn’t start off easy, but we’re gradually getting closer to reaching peak shape.
– What helps you overcome challenges in pursuit of your goals?
– I think it’s the love for what I do. That’s what motivates me every day to keep going and keep reaching for my goals.
– Who’s your main support system?
– The people who believe in me and are with me right now. There aren’t many of them, and I won’t name names — but they know who they are.
– Is there an athlete you look up to?
– I’d say this: every athlete has their own unique path. What matters most is being able to look back on a stage of your career and say, “I’m proud I made it through.” That’s what energizes me — those moments, those stories. And the fact that every day, I get to do what I love.
– What are your sources of inspiration?
– The joy on my loved ones’ faces when I come back with a victory. The spark in my coach’s eyes when we’ve had a great training session. There are many more moments I could list. All of them are gifts from the sport I love.
