KAZAKHSTANI ATHLETES TO COMPETE IN TASHKENT AT THE ASIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

On May 15, Tashkent will host the international UNG Meeting track and field competition, part of the World Athletics Continental Tour.

The international UNG Meeting, a bronze-level event on the World Athletics Continental Tour, will take place on May 15 in the Uzbek capital, Tashkent, at the stadium of the national athletics federation.

For athletes from across Asia, this meet serves as a tune-up ahead of the Asian Athletics Championships, set to be held from May 27 to 31 in the city of Gumi, South Korea. According to available information, 32 Kazakhstani athletes — 18 men and 14 women — are entered for the championships in Gumi. Three of them have chosen to compete in Tashkent: Alexandra Zalyubovskaya, Mariya Yefremova, and Viktoriya An.

Zalyubovskaya and An are entered in the 400m races, while Yefremova will compete in the triple jump. Notably, Yefremova won gold in the triple jump at the 2017 Asian Championships in Bhubaneswar, India, when she competed under her maiden name, Ovchinnikova.

Interestingly, Viktoriya An also had a standout performance in Bhubaneswar in 2017, becoming a three-time Asian champion — in the 100m, 200m, and as part of the 4x100m relay team. At that time, she was competing under her maiden name, Zyabkina.

The full entry list from the Kazakhstan Athletics Federation will be published soon on the official website qazathletics.kz.
