YOUTH GAMES – ADIL OMARBEKOV WINS THE MEN’S 400 METRES

According to available information, all three medalists in the men’s 400 metres at the 6th Republican Youth Games set personal bests on their way to the podium.

During the morning heats on 19 June, the top performances came from Adil Omarbekov of the Pavlodar Region and two athletes from the Almaty Region—Kirill Savchenko and Alan Ivanov.

As events later showed, they all entered the final in the evening with a truly competitive mindset. Despite adverse weather conditions, each of the three managed not only to improve on their morning results but also, it appears, to set new personal records.

The competition was intense, and the athletes were well matched. In the end, Adil Omarbekov emerged victorious with a time of 47.89. The 21-year-old from Pavlodar finished just nine hundredths of a second shy of the Master of Sport qualification standard.

Kirill Savchenko came in second with a time of 48.22. At just 17 years old, he had already claimed a bronze medal in the 400 metres hurdles at the Asian Youth Championships in Saudi Arabia back in April. The Youth Games now show that he’s a promising contender in the flat 400 metres as well. Alan Ivanov, aged 19, took bronze with a time of 48.37.

The key now is to keep building on this success!
