At the upcoming international competition in Tashkent, the “Gennady Arzumanov Memorial,” athletes from Kazakhstan who competed at the end of May at the Asian Championship in Gumi, South Korea, will also take part.
The event in memory of Gennady Arzumanov, an honored coach of Uzbekistan, will take place in Tashkent from June 19 to 21. A key factor drawing attention to the competition is its status as a bronze-level event within the World Athletics Continental Tour — the global track and field series.
Of the 31 Kazakhstani athletes who competed at the Asian Championship in Gumi, 10 will participate in the Arzumanov Memorial. One of them is high jumper Elizaveta Matveyeva, who won a silver medal at the Asian Championship. Adelina Zems will compete in the 400-meter hurdles — she placed fourth in this event in Gumi.
The rest had less successful performances in their individual events at the Asian Championship, making it all the more interesting to see their current form.
In the men's 400-meter hurdles, seasoned athlete Dmitriy Koblov will run. For the flat 400 meters, Andrey Sokolov and Elnor Mukhitdinov are entered.
Vitaliy Zems and Viktoriya An will compete in the 200 meters for men and women, respectively. Alexandra Zalyubovskaya will run the flat 400 meters. In the shot put, Asian Championship medalist Ivan Ivanov will compete, while Yuliya Bashmanova will race in the 100-meter hurdles.
The Arzumanov Memorial marks the second international competition held this year in Tashkent that is part of the Continental Tour with bronze status. Previously, on May 15, the UNG Meeting took place there. Most Kazakhstani athletes lacked competitive experience during the summer season leading up to the Asian Championship — essentially the main event of the year for many. However, only Alexandra Zalyubovskaya, Viktoriya An, and Mariya Yefremova competed at the UNG Meeting in May. Zalyubovskaya and An placed first and second in the 400 meters, respectively. Yefremova won the triple jump.
The Gennady Arzumanov Memorial has attracted greater interest from prominent Kazakhstani athletes.
