VI YOUTH GAMES, ATHLETICS – THE OUTLOOK BEFORE THE START

The website qazathletics.kz highlights key numbers and facts regarding regional representation in the upcoming athletics competitions at the VI National Summer Youth Games.

 

The athletics events at the VI Youth Games will take place from June 19 to 21 in the Almaty region at the Olympic Training Center stadium, located about 20 kilometers from Almaty. Participants must be under 23 years of age, meaning born in 2003 or later.

Athletes from 18 out of Kazakhstan’s 20 regions will take part in the athletics competitions — 15 regions and all three cities of republican significance: Astana, Almaty, and Shymkent. Only Atyrau and Aktobe regions will not be represented.

The total number of participants is 239, including 141 men and 97 women.

Almaty has the largest team — 30 athletes (16 men and 14 women), followed by Karaganda region with 27 (14+13), Shymkent with 26 (19+7), and East Kazakhstan region with 24 (11+13).

The smallest teams are from West Kazakhstan region – 2 (2 men), Zhambyl region – 2 (2 men), Mangystau region – 4 (1+3), Ulytau region – 4 (3+1), and Kyzylorda region – 5 (3+2).

According to submitted entries, representation from the remaining regions is as follows:

Turkistan region – 10 (6+4)
North Kazakhstan region – 11 (9+2)
Almaty region – 12 (8+4)
Abai region – 12 (8+4)
Zhetysu region – 12 (7+5)
Kostanay region – 13 (7+6)
Astana – 14 (9+5)
Akmola region – 14 (8+6)
Pavlodar region – 16 (8+8)
Among men, the most popular events at the VI Youth Games will be:

400 meters – 23 participants
200 meters and 800 meters – 21 each
100 meters – 18
1500 meters – 17
In jumping events, long jump (14) and triple jump have the most entrants.
The least popular men’s events are:

Pole vault (4)
Discus throw (4)
Hammer throw (4)
3000 meters steeplechase (4)
Decathlon (4)
Among women, the most popular events are:

100 meters and 200 meters – 18 each
400 meters – 13
Long jump – 12
The least popular events include:

The most distinguished participant in the athletics competitions of the VI Youth Games is 20-year-old Yasmina Toksanbayeva from Almaty. At the end of May, she won a bronze medal in the 20-kilometer race walk at the Asian Championship in Gumi, South Korea. Alina Chistyakova from Karaganda region placed 6th in the heptathlon at the same championship. Zelimkhan Nasyrov from Akmola region finished 6th in the triple jump.
