Almaty’s Viktoriya Sukacheva added another 800-metre victory to her record this season — this time on June 28 at the Kazakhstan Cup, held at the Olympic Training Centre stadium in Almaty Region.
Nine athletes lined up for the women’s 800-metre race, representing Pavlodar (2), East Kazakhstan, Mangystau, Almaty and Zhambyl Regions, along with three runners from the city of Almaty.
The medal battle came down to 19-year-old Viktoriya Sukacheva and the more experienced runners from Pavlodar Region — Yevgeniya Krassaeva and Yelizaveta Volkova. Sukacheva came out on top, crossing the finish line in 2 minutes 10.34 seconds. She held a lead of over four seconds ahead of runner-up Krassaeva, who clocked 2:14.42. Bronze went to Volkova with 2:16.02.
This marks Sukacheva’s third victory in the 800 metres in under a month and a half. Just a week earlier — on June 21 — she won at the Youth Games with a time of 2:11.08. Now, at the Kazakhstan Cup, competing against a more experienced field, she not only took the win again but also improved her time.
In May, she made headlines by winning the 800 metres at the international UNG Meeting in Tashkent — part of the prestigious World Athletics Continental Tour (Bronze level).
In short, the 19-year-old from Almaty is putting together an impressive winning streak on both national and international stages.
