KAZAKHSTAN CUP – 100M HURDLES: YULIYA BASHMANOVA – A HEARTBEAT FROM A RECORD

From race to race, East Kazakhstan sprinter Yuliya Bashmanova is edging closer to breaking her personal best set three years ago.

The women’s 100 metres hurdles took place on June 27, part of day two of the Kazakhstan Athletics Cup, held at the Olympic Training Centre stadium in Almaty Region.

The spotlight was on two seasoned hurdlers from the national team — Yuliya Bashmanova (East Kazakhstan) and Anel Shulakova (Karaganda Region). In April–May, both spent over a month at a training camp in Turkey. Bashmanova later competed at the Asian Athletics Championships in late May and just days ago — on June 22 — claimed second place at the Gennadiy Arzumanov Memorial in Tashkent.

For Shulakova, this was her first competition of the season at either national or international level.

Back in Tashkent, Bashmanova’s performance hinted that she might soon surpass her personal best of 13.61 seconds, set on June 26, 2022, in Almaty.

And now, following her victory at the Kazakhstan Cup, she has come closer than ever. Bashmanova won convincingly with a time of 13.62 seconds — just one hundredth of a second shy of her personal record!

Seventeen-year-old Irina Konishcheva from Almaty finished second in 14.30. A heptathlete by trade, she won silver at the 2024 Asian Junior Championships. She missed the Master of Sport standard by just 0.1 seconds.

Third place went to Anna Timoshina from Pavlodar Region with a time of 14.43. Anel Shulakova placed fourth in 14.57 seconds.
