Unlike the men’s long jump event the day before, the women didn’t have the benefit of a strong tailwind. Qazathletics.kz reports on how the competition unfolded in the women’s long jump at the national championships.
On July 11, the women’s long jump took place under unusually calm wind conditions — a rarity at the Olympic Training Centre stadium in Almaty Region, the host venue of the 2025 Kazakhstan Athletics Championships.
The determined mindset of the athletes was evident from the start — in their push to jump as far as possible, six of the nine participants fouled their first attempts. It was Anastasiya Rypakova from East Kazakhstan Region — the leader of the national team in this discipline — who set the tone. She will turn 21 this September. In her opening jump, Rypakova recorded 5.95 meters. Her second attempt was a miss, but in her third, she flew to 6.25 meters — with a modest tailwind of just 0.8 m/s.
That mark is her season’s best and just 10 centimeters short of her personal record, set in February 2024 at the Asian Indoor Championships in Tehran.
Second place went to veteran athlete Mariya Yefremova, whose main event is the triple jump — which she won on July 10, the opening day of the championships. In the long jump, five of her six attempts were fouls, but her one legal jump measured 6.02 meters.
Bronze went to 21-year-old Valeriya Safonova from Karagandy Region, who reached 5.87 meters. A day earlier, she had claimed silver in the women’s 100m sprint.
Another notable competitor, Alina Chistyakova — a participant at the 2025 Asian Championships and also from Karagandy Region — placed fourth with a best of 5.77 meters.
