Qazathletics.kz highlights the athletes competing in the decathlon for boys and the heptathlon for girls at the upcoming Kazakhstan Championship for youth sports schools, featuring participants born in 2008–2009. The event will be held from July 17 to 19.
As with all national competitions, the championship will take place at the Olympic Training Centre Stadium in the Almaty region.
In the boys’ decathlon, six athletes will compete, representing three regions — Almaty, Karaganda (2), East Kazakhstan — as well as the cities of Almaty and Shymkent. The leading contender in this discipline is 16-year-old Askar Omirzak from East Kazakhstan. In April, Askar claimed silver at the U18 Asian Youth Championships in Saudi Arabia. Then, in May, he not only won the national title in his age group but also set a new national U18 record in the decathlon with 6,631 points.
There is also interest in how another Asian Youth Championship participant will perform — 16-year-old Nikita Mironov from Shymkent, considered Omirzak’s main rival.
In the girls’ heptathlon, five athletes will take part, representing Almaty, Almaty region, Karaganda, Kyzylorda, and North Kazakhstan regions. The most decorated among them is 15-year-old Asylzat Kydyrbay from Kyzylorda. In April, she earned a bronze medal at the Asian Youth Championships in Saudi Arabia.
As for the winner of that same championship — Polina Kuzubova from Shymkent — she is entered in other disciplines of the competition: the 100m sprint, high jump, and the 4x100m relay.
