On June 21 in Tashkent, at the 7th Gennady Arzumanov Memorial, Kazakhstani track athlete Adelina Zems confidently won the 400m hurdles. But she considers her performance only satisfactory. More details in an interview with qazathletics.kz.
– Adelina, congratulations on your victory! How do you rate your performance — what went well, and what didn’t?
– I’d rate it as satisfactory. I came to Tashkent to win — and I did that. But I also wanted to clock a time close to my personal best. That didn’t happen. As a small consolation, it turns out I set a new Arzumanov Memorial record in the 400m hurdles — 58.30 seconds.
– Did you feel like you could run faster?
– Right before the race, I didn’t actually feel like I was going to run fast. So, it turned out the way it did.
– What affected the final result?
– The main reason for my underwhelming performance was the lack of competition. I love racing against girls who are stronger than me.
– What were your sensations during the race? Where did you feel you could’ve done better?
– I ran the distance evenly but couldn’t get into my running rhythm. That happened right at the beginning of the race.
– What do you see for the second half of your season?
– There aren’t many races left, and nearly all of them are in Kazakhstan — again, with no real competition. I’m still waiting to hear back from Europe, hoping to compete there at least once.
