At the Asian Championship held at the end of May in the Korean city of Gumi, Kazakhstan’s team included 31 athletes. Of these, 8 were born in 2003 or later. All of them will compete at the VI Youth Games.
At the VI Youth Games, athletics competitions will be held from June 19 to 21 in the Almaty region at the Olympic Training Center stadium. Athletes under the age of 23, that is, born in 2003 or later, are eligible to compete.
There were 8 such athletes at the Asian Championship in Gumi. All of them have been entered into the Youth Games by their respective regions. The most successful among them in Gumi was 20-year-old Yasmina Toksanbayeva from Almaty. She won a bronze medal in the 20-kilometer race walk. Yasmina will compete in the same event at the Youth Games.
In the triple jump in Gumi, 22-year-old Zelimkhan Nasyrov from Akmola region finished sixth. For the first time, he surpassed the 16-meter mark, setting a personal best of 16.21 meters and achieving the Master of Sport standard. At the Youth Games, Zelimkhan will compete in both the triple jump and the long jump.
Twenty-year-old Alina Chistyakova from Karaganda region also met the Master of Sport standard at the Asian Championship. She placed sixth in the heptathlon with a score of 5292 points. At the Youth Games, Alina will compete not only in the heptathlon but also in the 100-meter hurdles and the 4x100-meter relay. Another multi-event athlete, 20-year-old Ekaterina Avdeenko from Shymkent, had to withdraw from the Asian Championship after an unsuccessful first event. At the Youth Games, she will compete in the shot put and the long jump instead of the heptathlon.
Twenty-one-year-old Anna Shumilo from Karaganda region competed at the Asian Championship as part of the women’s 4x400-meter relay team, which finished fourth. At the Youth Games, she is entered in the 200 and 400 meters, as well as in all three relays: the 4x100 meters, the 4x400 meters, and the mixed 4x400 meters.
Twenty-year-old Anastasiya Rypakova from East Kazakhstan successfully made it through qualification in the long jump at the Asian Championship and placed 12th in the final. At the Youth Games, she will compete in the long jump.
Eighteen-year-old Ayana Bolatbekkyzy from Zhetysu region finished 12th in the 1500 meters in Gumi. In addition to this distance, she will also compete in the 800 meters at the Youth Games. Another 18-year-old athlete, Antonina Chernyshova, finished 15th in the 100-meter hurdles at the Asian Championship. Besides this event, she will also compete in the long jump at the Youth Games.
