SERGEY POLIKARPOV BECAME THE WINNER OF THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP AMONG VETERANS

Sergey Polikarpov, the first and only in Kazakhstan World Champion in Athletics among veterans, once again demonstrated the highest class.

The athlete won the gold medal at the World Championships, which started yesterday, March 24, in the city of Torun (Poland).

The athlete performed in the M60 category. In the 3000-meter race, he finished first, setting a new world record of 9: 43.11. With a score of 9: 47.93, Kauppila Jukka, a Finnish citizen, was second. Third place was won by Irish athlete Thomas Paine, 10: 05.69.

The World Indoor Championship among veterans will last 6 days, until March 30.

It is worth noting that today Sergey Polikarpov is already the 12-time Asian Champion, the 5-time World Champion and the 3-time winner of the World Veteran Games.

The famous Kazakhstani athlete has more than 20 records in different age groups. By the way, the record set by the team of domestic athletes in 1996 in Greece in the marathon relay, still holds.

In 2011, at the World Championships in Sacramento (USA), Sergey Polikarpov became the World Champion in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters race.

At the Asian Championships in Taipei in 2012, the athlete won three gold medals in running for 1,500, 5,000, 10,000 meters.

In 2013, at the World Veteran Games, which were held in Turin (Italy), he became the winner in long-distance running, 5,000 and 10,000 meters, as well as a half marathon in his age group.
